As best illustrated in the The Universe of Knowledge pie chart shown in class, I’m starting to comprehend “what I don’t know that I don’t know” and open my eyes to the limitless opportunities with regard specifically to the Internet and social media marketing. Did I realize that I didn’t know about the significance of the Domain Name System (DNS)? Nope. Did I understand that a mere 15 years ago the first commercial Websites were formed? No way. Who stops to consider that the purpose and success of social media marketing rests on friends, fun, and conversation? And really, you can “listen” to the Web to get real-time feedback on how often something is mentioned?? So cool.
Now on to another question: what does all that have to do with food and races? Well, such an understanding of social media and the power of dialogue hopefully will aid me in my pursuit of promoting Citizens Co-Op, an up-and-coming, cooperatively-owned food market in the Gainesville area dedicated to providing fresh, socially responsible foods. I’m thrilled to take on this project partly because one fun event in particular that we will be involved with is a bike race to build community awareness of the co-op. Want a grocer with fresh, local foods and the chance to challenge your friends in a Gainesville-based bike race? Check out all that Citizens Co-Op has to offer. Trust me, you will be hearing much more about them soon.

First off, as someone who is not very technologically-inclined, I think that it is great that you are involved in a class that can prepare you to work with the Internet and marketing strategies. Next, the practicality of working with a real Gainesville business is immense! I’m very proud that you are getting this opportunity. The idea of a promoting a Co-op is unique, should be lots of fun, and good luck!
