Italian Court Convicts Google Execs for Uploaded Video
As a person of Italian heritage I am deeply saddened by the decision in this case. The three Google executives that were convicted had no part in producing or uploading the video and had no way of knowing it even existed. Google acted responsibly by quickly removing the video and this case never should have been prosecuted to begin with.
Unfortunately, the Italian government, which still requires paper registrations for its .it domain names, lives in the past. They do not understand this new interactive world in which we live, where companies create platforms and users generate content. There is so much content available that we cannot reasonably expect platform owners, such as Google, to inspect it all. Instead, we must hold the content creators to account.
