To captivate an audience, you don’t need flashy presentations or attire. You need to generate a story that can sell itself. Want to master this art form? Just ask the one and only guru, Steve Jobs.
Steve Jobs’ life revolves around buzz. Did you hear about an Apple product from your boss who heard from your best friend’s uncle who heard from your great-grandfather? If you answered yes, his job is done and all is right with in the world of Apple. To accomplish such appealing and buzz-worthy stories, Jobs focuses on just a few concepts: simplicity, informality, and stage presence. Apple’s revolutionary and innovative products are presented by Jobs in such a straightforward and elegant way. Though, the reason Apple’s marketing scheme is so successful is because Jobs promotes the company in a way that is memorable. He comes up with unorthodox anecdotes that you will want to tell your friends about, such as “the internet in your pocket” (when introducing the first generation iPhone). In addition to clever one-liners, Jobs dresses casually even at keynotes for Macworld. He’s approachable enough so the average person can relate to him, thus, the products seem more likeable. Lastly, Steve Jobs is completely invested in everything he does as the Apple CEO. When it comes to his stage presence, he appears to be extremely relaxed and confident. Though, this comes with countless hours of practice and total devotion. He relies on no distractions and no fuss, just pure passion and a tagline that will spread like wildfire.
Furthermore, because every single aspect of marketing is changing (even by the time you finish reading this sentence), conventional advertising tactics fail to attract the normal consumer. Social media is now dominating the platform and only a unique story will inspire friends to promote one’s vision on your Facebook wall.
In this course, I am extremely excited to be working to create a marketing plan for The Gainesvillains, a blog created by Shaan Saigol (fellow classmate/DJ/producer/extraordinaire) to promote Gainesville happenings and the local music scene. As a music aficionado and concerts addict, I am always utilizing social networking sites to hear about new bands. So as a fan, I am beyond intrigued to now be working on the other side. Thanks to the wisdom of Steve Jobs, we’ll be focusing on creating a memorable story that will hopefully initiate loyal communities and inspire brand loyalty. Oh, and please make sure you tell your friends.

Hello there! My name is Jackie Arellano and I’m a sophomore majoring in Finance with a minor in Communication Studies. My main passions include music, art, traveling, and fashion. Outside of class, I am involved with many business and volunteering organizations. Overall, I would say I am somewhat of a technology addict. I am proficient with both Windows and Apple computers. Though like I said in class, “Once you go Mac, you can’t go back.” I started using computers heavily when I was around 7 and quickly learned to type up to 147 words per minute. Back in elementary school I learned some HTML and made many music fansites. In the past, I had a strong passion for graphic design so I have experience with Adobe Photoshop and Jasc Paint Shop Pro. I’ve had blogs before on LiveJournal and even Xanga. I also have an iPhone so I am constantly “connected.” I use social networking sites on a daily basis such as
