Marketing through the internet is still in its infancy. How can businesses grab the attention of potential consumers? There is no concrete answer. A decade ago, businesses could place ads on popular websites and that would get people’s attention. Now many of these potential consumers have ad blockers or have become so accustomed to these ads that they don’t even notice them anymore. Since the internet is evolving so quickly it can be hard for businesses to keep up. Some hire professional bloggers to blog about their products for them. Once people realize that a blog is pushing a specific brand, regardless of quality, they will learn to ignore it and may lose faith in the brand. Some companies develop interactive ads or even free games which can be entertaining enough to keep potential consumers interested. If people like the game they might tell their friends, helping the business advertise its product.

So, there are several ways in which businesses can capture the attention of or “interact” with their consumers. How would something like the MSE Program with its extremely limited audience do this? It’s a year long commitment, not a pair of jeans from Abercrombie. Even if people hear about the program and think it’s interesting, chances are the vast majority won’t actually participate in it. This could turn out to be a very difficult task.
